About

Back in late 2018 / early 2019, I created a videopak for the OP-Z.

The OP-Z is a lovely little synth / sequencer created by Teenage Engineering that comes with a companion app that talks with it through bluetooth, giving you UI as well as a nifty little feature that lets you upload a Unity asset bundle and have the OP-Z control its content via MIDI.

The content you upload to the app is called a videopak. Under the hood, a videopak is a Unity scene+assets that you export out as an asset bundle. It can include all the usual suspects (shaders, textures, meshes, materials…etc) except for custom C# scripts. To get around that custom scripting limitation, it relies on the wonderful Klak creative coding library Keijiro made.

Being a digital artist primarily using Unity, a lover of synths, and a big TE fan, I was eye’ing the OP-Z since it was first announced and was excited to make a videopak. This is the first pak I made, with potentially more to come in the future

Details

All assets, vfx, animation…etc in this pack are created by me using Unity and Houdini (the human model was generated through Adobe Fuse). To get around the limitation of no custom scripts, I used things like vertex shaders grabbing UV and color data from procedurally created meshes exported from Houdini to do procedural animation like the array of cube structures moving through space

Glitchy, colorful, punchy real-time 3D graphics to go along with your music. Every MIDI button on the OP-Z's two octave keyboard controls a different aspect of this videopak. Enjoy!Works with the OP-Z iphone companion app only. Built for version 1.2.x.
